Why it's worth checking out
The Grand National Hotel by Saint Peter offers a small, considered stay in Paddington, with rooms arranged across three heritage levels above Saint Peter at 161 Underwood Street. It is suited to travellers who want accommodation closely connected to one of Sydney’s destination restaurants, with the option to combine an overnight stay and a Saint Peter booking. The hotel’s dine-and-stay package includes a welcome canapé and drink on arrival, breakfast by Saint Peter and late checkout, with guests asked to reserve their restaurant table and contact the hotel to confirm the arrangement.
The rooms range from the 20-square-metre Queen Studio to the 45-square-metre Luxury Terrace Suite. The Queen Studio is designed for one guest, while the King Grand Room, King Luxury Suite, Corner Heritage Suite and Luxury Terrace Suite accommodate one or two people. Across the rooms, practical touches include high-speed Wi-Fi, a secure safe, Dyson hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers, a curated local minibar and Sans Ceuticals amenities. Bathrooms have separate showers and toilets, while selected suites add features such as a soaking bath, heritage fireplace or additional living space.
The Luxury Terrace Suite is the standout option for space and outlook. It has a king bed, lounge area, marble bathroom and private terrace, with views across Paddington’s treetops towards the city. The Corner Heritage Suite offers a different character, combining the restored building’s high ceilings and natural light with contemporary comforts. These options would suit a special weekend or a quieter base for a business trip, while the smaller Queen Studio provides a more compact stay for a solo traveller.
Guests can also dine at Saint Peter, which has a Main Dining Room and a separate bar area. The restaurant offers a three-course choice menu at lunch from Thursday to Sunday, and a ten-course tasting menu for dinner seven days a week. The bar is a more casual option for a seasonal à la carte meal, snack or cocktail. For celebrations and larger gatherings, the private dining room seats up to 14, the Main Dining Room can be booked for groups of up to 40, and the whole venue can accommodate up to 75 seated guests. Children are welcome in the restaurant, although there is no children’s menu and all guests dine from the set menu. With a Google rating of 4.7 from 183 reviews, the hotel is a strong fit for couples, solo visitors and diners planning an occasion around a Paddington stay.
