Our mission
Sydney is too big to be covered by one list, and most guides don't really try — they cover the CBD, Surry Hills and Bondi, then stop. That leaves out Chatswood, Parramatta and half the places Sydneysiders actually eat at on a Tuesday.
We built Sydney Spots to work the way people here actually search: by where they are, not by where a travel editor thinks they should be. Manly and Parramatta are both in this guide at the same depth, because for the people living near them, they're the whole city.
We're not trying to list every venue in Greater Sydney. We'd rather write something specific about a place than pad the site out with entries we can't say anything useful about.
Right now we cover 2,708 places across Sydney, organised into 27 categories and 14 suburbs — from Sydney CBD, Chatswood, Manly to Surry Hills. Our biggest sections are restaurants (310), cafes (223), parks (222), gyms (214), where to stay (209).
Coverage is deepest across Sydney CBD, Chatswood, Manly, Parramatta, Surry Hills and Bondi, with restaurants and cafes making up the bulk of what we list — though parks, gyms and places to stay are all covered properly rather than as an afterthought.
We're not a spam directory and we're not trying to list everything. We'd rather feature the places we'd happily recommend to a friend than pad the site with venues we can't vouch for.
How we're different
The Spot Score
Every venue gets a Spot Score — our own independent rating that weighs a venue's reputation, popularity, the quality of information available about it, how well it fits its category and how fresh that information is. It's our score, not a paid placement and not a copy of a Google star rating. You can read exactly how it works in our editorial policy.
Human review
Nothing goes live unchecked. We use data and modern tools to research venues efficiently, but a person reviews what we publish. We'd rather be slower and right than fast and wrong.
Honest sourcing
We only state things we can stand behind. Where details such as opening hours or menus come from a third party, we treat them as a starting point and encourage you to confirm with the venue directly. We're upfront about where our information comes from — see how we create content.
Part of a network
Sydney Spots is one of a growing network of independent Australian city guides, each dedicated to a single place — from Brisbane and the Gold Coast to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Canberra, Darwin and Tasmania. Same standards, same honest approach, applied city by city by people who care about getting their patch right.
