Tailor Room

Tailor Room is a cocktail bar in the Argyle Stores, part of Sydney’s historic Argyle building in The Rocks. Its concept draws on tailoring and garment-making, with the room presented as an intimate place for carefully considered drinks, conversation and small gatherings. The cocktail list develops the tailoring theme through its “Textures” selection. Drinks are named after materials including Cotton, Silk, Linen, Fur, Denim, Cashmere, Velvet, Corduroy, Wool and Leather, each built around a different combination of spirits, fortified wines, fruit, spices and house-made elements. Cotton combines vodka, nigori sake, hojicha, raspberry, horchata, grapefruit and rosewater, while Silk brings together gin, rhubi mistelle, Campari, lychee, coconut and sparkling wine. The Cotton and Silk cocktails can also be prepared without alcohol. There are more familiar options beyond the themed list, including a Refined Bellini, Caipirinha, Paloma and Brooklyn.

Food is designed for the bar rather than as a full restaurant menu. The snacks range from mixed nuts and Australian olives to Sydney Rock oysters, fried green olives, nduja crispy potato skins and a Jamón and Manchego toastie. For something more substantial, the menu includes Black Wagyu Topside Mini Steak Frites and a lobster roll, with optional caviar available for some dishes. A Russian Honey Cake provides a sweet finish. The menu notes that offerings and details may change, so it is worth checking the current selection when booking.

The website describes the bartenders as craftspeople whose knowledge shapes both the drinks and the experience, with an emphasis on warmth rather than formality. Reservations are available, and the venue trades from 5pm daily: until midnight Sunday to Thursday, and until 1am on Friday and Saturday.
