Why it's worth checking out
Marrinawi Cove is a 700-square-metre swimming spot at the northern end of Barangaroo Reserve, listed in The Rocks, Sydney. It offers a sheltered harbour setting where sculpted sandstone and native plants meet Sydney Harbour, creating a quieter alternative to the city’s more built-up waterfront spaces.
The cove’s main feature is a designated swimming enclosure designed to support harbour swimming in the city. Safety netting, signs, railings and a nearby shower are provided, while toilets and another shower are available at the former Sewerage Pump House near the Towns Place entrance. Water quality is regularly monitored through Beachwatch, and the enclosure has a shark net anchored to the harbour floor.
This is a natural swimming environment rather than a lifeguard-patrolled pool. Visitors should follow the safety signage and take care around slippery rocks, oysters, algae and marine life; suitable footwear is recommended. Barangaroo Rangers monitor the area as part of the wider precinct safety systems. Dogs may swim but must be leashed when walking through the area, and fishing is not permitted. Marrinawi Cove suits swimmers and visitors looking for a harbour dip, a peaceful place to cool off, or a distinctive outdoor stop within central Sydney, provided they swim responsibly and check for any maintenance closures.
