Why it's worth checking out
.M Contemporary is a contemporary art gallery in Darlinghurst, Sydney, presenting a curated programme that brings emerging Australian artists together with more established artists from around the world. Since opening in 2013, the gallery has placed particular emphasis on supporting artists at the beginning of their careers, including newly graduated artists from art schools around Australia and emerging international artists shown in Australia for the first time.
The gallery’s programme is built around artists from different cultural backgrounds and traditions, with an stated interest in creating dialogue across those perspectives. Its exhibitions also engage with current social and political affairs, giving visitors an opportunity to consider wider global issues alongside the artworks themselves. The website lists solo and group exhibitions involving artists including Anya Pesce, Cameron Haas, Diana Watson and Malcolm Greenwood, as well as participation in Sydney Contemporary Art Fair 2026. Past online exhibitions have included Roger Ballen and Amy Carkeek.
Visitors can see works in the gallery and browse available art through the stockroom, with the gallery also inviting enquiries about works on approval. For collectors and people selecting art for a home, office or other space, its art advisory service can help curate a selection from the stockroom. The process may include mock-ups and a loan period in which selected works are viewed in the client’s space. A select group of gallery artists also offers commissions, while delivery and professional installation are available across the Sydney Metro area.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 10am to 4pm, closing on Sundays, Mondays and public holidays. It is on Boundary Street in Darlinghurst, with parking available on Boundary Street, McLachlan Avenue and Neild Avenue. The setting and programme make it a natural stop for solo visitors, art enthusiasts and collectors who want to spend time with contemporary work, follow emerging artists or make a more considered purchase. Visitors can also contact the gallery for information about exhibitions, available works, commissions and advisory services.
