Why it's worth checking out
Hotel Harry is a Surry Hills pub with several ways to settle in, bringing together a bistro, public bar, lounge terrace, private dining room and Harry’s Hi-Fi. The venue describes itself as a pub made for the neighbourhood, and its connection to the area is longstanding: the team says it has watched Surry Hills develop into one of Sydney’s most creative precincts over more than 15 years. The current Harry’s is presented as a new chapter with the same team, led in part by co-owner Brett Robinson.
Food is served across the venue, with a menu that moves comfortably between pub classics, Italian-style dishes and larger shared plates. Harry’s Roman pizza is made in an imported Marana Forni oven, with a thin, crisp base and toppings including Margherita, Calabrese, Pepperoni and Quattro Formaggi. The kitchen also offers handmade pasta, steaks and other grill options, fish and chips, chicken schnitzel and parmigiana. For something designed to share, the banquet combines Bannockburn organic rotisserie chicken or Bangalow pork with salad, roast potatoes, Brussels sprouts and jus. The rotisserie is used daily for the chicken and pork, giving the menu a clear house speciality beyond standard pub fare.
There is plenty for drinks-focused visits, too. The cocktail list includes spritzes, margaritas, an espresso martini and Negroni variations, alongside a wine list covering Australian and international sparkling, rosé, orange, white and red wines. Harry’s also runs regular specials, including Monday pizzas, Tuesday schnitzels, Wednesday burger day and a Sunday roast. These offers are stated on the current website and may be worth checking when planning a casual midweek meal.
The Hi-Fi element gives the public bar a distinct music focus. Harry’s has a custom-built DJ booth fitted with vintage Sansui speakers, and the venue hosts music events such as old-school hip-hop nights. That makes it a natural choice for a drink with friends, a group meal or an evening that moves from dinner into music. The lounge terrace, private dining room and function enquiry option provide alternatives for different-sized gatherings, while the broad menu and all-day venue access also make it workable for a straightforward pub lunch or dinner in central Sydney.
