Why it's worth checking out
Dunningham Park is a large foreshore park at the corner of Elouera Road and The Kingsway in Cronulla, beside North Cronulla Beach. Its open grassed areas, picnic seating and beachside setting make it a practical place to spend time outdoors, whether you are meeting friends, settling in for a picnic or looking for a family outing close to the water. There is also a kiosk on site, along with toilets and a bubbler.
The recently upgraded playground is the park’s main drawcard for families, with accessible play facilities and disabled access listed among the amenities. The play area is designed to encourage children to explore, while adults have the adjoining picnic and grassed areas nearby. The park is partly fenced, with limited boundary fencing along Elouera Road, so younger children will need supervision around the open edges and beachside surrounds.
Dunningham Park also provides access to the Cronulla Ocean Pools via The Esplanade pedestrian walkway. The larger southern pool is considered the better option for general swimming and laps, while the smaller northern pool can be submerged at high tide and shallow at low tide. Neither pool is patrolled by lifeguards, so visitors should check the conditions before entering and continue to assess them while swimming.
Parking is available both on the street and in an adjoining car park. If you are bringing a barbecue, only a portable gas model is permitted; coal, wood and heat-bead barbecues are not allowed. Dogs must be kept at least 10 metres from playgrounds and play equipment, even when on a lead. With its playground, accessible facilities, picnic space and direct connection to the beach and ocean pools, the park suits families and groups wanting an easy outdoor base in Cronulla, as well as visitors looking to combine a park stop with a swim.
