Why it's worth checking out
Antuanelle is a Coogee, Sydney-based art practice focused on tactile abstract landscapes and sculptural ocean-inspired works. The collection includes original, hand-painted pieces made with layered texture, sand sourced from different parts of the world and raw minerals. Rather than depicting a coastline literally, the artworks use surface, movement and material to explore how places become tied to memory, identity and belonging.
The Ocean Stories series is the clearest expression of this approach, with works shaped by coastlines, personal recollection and change. Other collections explore tidal calm, statement coastal forms, amethyst and quartz, and stitched landscapes concerned with repair and belonging. Named works include Genesis of Belonging, Surrender Set, Finding My Way Set, Topography of Rupture and Serene Shoreline. There is also a curated selection of limited-edition Ocean Stories prints, with each edition capped at 20 copies and available in custom sizes.
The work is intended for interiors where texture and atmosphere matter, from private homes and coastal residences to wellness spaces, hotels and design-led commercial projects. The heavily worked surfaces create relief and shifting shadows, while the artist’s coastal palettes are designed to bring softness and visual depth to a room. Antuanelle can also help customers assess scale and placement by preparing a complimentary digital mock-up from a photo of their space. Original works are professionally finished and supplied ready to hang, with a signed certificate of authenticity.
Artist Marie Antuanelle’s practice is informed by migration and the challenge of rebuilding a sense of place. After moving to Australia in 2012, she began translating that experience into tactile topographies made from sand, texture and mineral materials. Alongside available works, she creates commissions developed around a client’s preferred size, colour palette and interior. The process can include a room consultation, a tailored concept, progress updates and installation guidance, with most commissioned pieces completed within two to three weeks. Studio visits may be available by appointment, so this is best approached as a considered destination for solo art browsing, collectors and interior designers rather than an unplanned walk-in outing.
