Why it's worth checking out

500 Degrees Restaurant Cronulla is a steakhouse near the beach in Cronulla, Sydney, built around cooking over open-flame chargrills. The restaurant says its method is influenced by the South African Braai tradition, with live coals used to create a clean char and smoky flavour. The approach has been part of the business since 2016, and the same focus carries through from the in-house butcher’s preparation to the kitchen’s cooking and resting of each steak before it reaches the table.

Dry-aged beef is a major part of the offering. Cuts are aged in-house for 30 to 45 days to develop deeper flavour, richer marbling and a softer texture. The signature tomahawk is a substantial 1.5kg cut, while the Cronulla menu also includes dry-aged T-bone and prime rib, Cape Grim steaks, wagyu and eye fillet. For something deliberately extravagant, the 24 Karat Gold Steak is a 250g eye fillet finished with 24-karat gold leaf. There are also Angus beef ribs, Northern Rivers pork ribs, lamb ribs and sharing combinations for diners who want to try more than one style of grilled meat.

This is not limited to steak. The menu includes seafood such as oysters, salmon, barramundi, grilled octopus, prawns and a seafood platter, alongside salads and vegetarian dishes including pumpkin steak and a veggie platter. Every cut is halal-certified, and the restaurant notes that vegetarian options are available at each of its venues. Guests can choose from pink, sea, garlic and herb salts to finish their steak, with sides including chips, salad or roasted potatoes on many mains.

The Cronulla location is described as a short walk from the beach, with views, making it suited to a meal after a swim or a longer evening around the table. The Braai-inspired idea of shared meals is reflected in the seating and group-friendly menu, including meat platters and functions for family celebrations, work events and larger bookings. Families have kids’ meals to choose from, while couples, solo diners and groups can all find options beyond the larger cuts. It is a practical choice for diners who want flame-grilled meat but need a broader menu for the table.
