44 North

44 North is a Bondi bar on O’Brien Street built around cocktails, a compact food menu and a lively events calendar. Its drinks focus on classic and specialty cocktails with a Canadian influence, while the bar menu covers larger bites, snacks, tacos and burgers. The venue is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 7:30am until late, with Mondays also opening in season.

The menu combines familiar bar food with a few more distinctive options. The Smash Burger pairs double-smash beef, cheese, house sauce and pickles with fries, while the Bondi’s Best Burrito can be ordered with chicken, pork or brisket. Other substantial choices include the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich, Chicken Parmi Burger and the 44 Salad. For sharing or a lighter order, there are mushroom and truffle arancini, a chicken quesadilla, chilli avo dip, buttermilk tenders and tacos available as a bowl.

Cocktails are central to the 44 North offering. The Casa Verde brings together tequila, mint, coriander, jalapeño and lime, while the Northside combines vodka, strawberry, mint, cucumber and citrus. There is also an Aperol Margarita, several versions of the Margarita, a seasonal spritz and a Spiked Arnold Palmer. The drinks list extends to Australian and New Zealand wines, canned and bottled options, cider, ginger beer, sangria and Sydney Brewery lager and pale ale on tap.

The venue was created by two Canadian expats and presents itself as a vibrant addition to the Bondi scene, with an approach that keeps the focus on straightforward food and drinks. Regular programming includes Music Trivia Tuesdays and comedy on Thursdays at 7pm. For larger gatherings, the upstairs private event space can be arranged for parties, meetings and celebrations, with layouts that can be adjusted and views overlooking Bondi.
