Why it's worth checking out

The Robin Hood Hotel is an art-deco pub in Waverley’s Charing Cross, serving the Bondi, Sydney area with a mix of classic pub food, a French-inspired bistro and live entertainment. It is also set up for sport, with footy and other live matches part of the offering, making it a practical choice for a casual meal, a drink with friends or an evening built around the game.

Food is served through Lorraine’s Bistro, located above the pub, where bookings can be made. The menu covers familiar pub favourites alongside more distinctive dishes, including French onion soup, Middle Eastern mezze, cacio e pepe arancini and salt and pepper calamari. There is a broad burger selection, from a lentil burger and fried chicken burger to the wagyu smash burger and French steak sandwich, while the mains include chicken schnitzel, chicken parmi, beef bourguignon, king prawn linguine and fish, chips and salad.

The grill is a strong focus, with Jack’s Creek Black Angus rump, scotch fillet and a one-kilogram bone-in rib eye, as well as grilled Atlantic salmon and seared barramundi for those after something lighter. The venue says its steaks are sourced from hormone-free, New England-raised beef, and its drinks list includes wines by the glass plus more than 90 back-vintage and rare bottles. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices are also marked across the menu, and there is a dedicated kids’ section for diners under 12.

There is a regular weekly programme beyond the dining room: trivia on Mondays, steak specials on Tuesdays, wings on Wednesdays, schnitzels on Thursdays, karaoke on Fridays, DJs on Saturdays and pool on Sundays. Lorraine’s also provides private and group dining spaces above the hotel for gatherings ranging from eight to 200 guests. The venue’s story reaches back to 1979, when Lorraine Havin became one of the first women to hold a pub licence in New South Wales; her belief that a good meal depends on the setting and company still informs the food philosophy. With its mix of sport, music, dining, family options and group spaces, the Robin Hood suits relaxed catch-ups and larger occasions without losing its local-pub character.
