Why it's worth checking out
The Grounds of The City brings the polished, theatrical feel of The Grounds group into Sydney CBD, with a 1920s-inspired setting inside The Galeries at 500 George Street. The venue is designed as an escape from the city’s bustle, pairing classic charm with contemporary comfort. Its central location makes it a practical stop for coffee, a meal or a quick takeaway bite while you are shopping, working or exploring the city.
The menu covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with breakfast served until 11:30am and the later menu available from 11:45am. Morning choices range from familiar options such as eggs on toast and avocado toast to more elaborate plates including buttermilk pancakes, a free-range truffle omelette and a king crab muffin. Later in the day, the menu moves through snacks, small plates, mains, burgers and salads, with dishes such as wood mushroom cavatelli, roasted free-range chicken, charred beef fillet and a grass-fed beef burger. There is also a dedicated kids menu, making the venue suitable for families as well as solo diners and couples.
For something more occasion-focused, City Afternoon Tea is offered at the Sydney CBD venue. The restaurant also promotes a date-night add-on with a reserved table styled with a candlestick and red rose, while its semi-private Tasting Room may suit diners seeking a more secluded setting, subject to availability. A share-plate set menu is available on request for groups of four or more, and groups of up to five can book online, with walk-ins also welcome. Larger bookings should contact the venue directly.
The venue accommodates different dining styles, including bar seating for up to three guests and full dine-in service at the bar. Business diners can request a quieter table, although this cannot be guaranteed. It is fully licensed, but does not permit BYO alcohol; external cakes are allowed with a cakeage fee. Assistance and service dogs are welcome, while standard dogs are generally not permitted under the shopping centre’s regulations. With its broad day-to-night menu, family options and occasion-led experiences, The Grounds of The City is suited to everything from a quick CBD coffee to a planned dinner or afternoon tea.
