Why it's worth checking out

MVMT Studio is a Manly gym built around strength, Pilates and mobility rather than a single style of training. Its MVMT Method combines these three pillars to support function, performance and longevity, with programming intended to carry over into everyday movement and activities such as surfing, running and swimming. The studio is aimed at people who want more structure and progression than they have found in a traditional gym or Pilates studio, particularly those working on strength, mobility, stability, movement quality or injury prevention.

Classes are offered in small groups of up to 14 people, with 30 sessions scheduled each week. The training is organised into six class styles: Strength, Kettlebells and functional core, Signature Pilates, Surf Pilates, Flow and Range. The programme also includes progressive, physio-designed strength training in six-week blocks, with an emphasis on multi-directional movement, rotation, control, unilateral work and functional core strength. That gives members several ways to train while keeping the focus on considered, balanced movement rather than random workouts.

The studio’s approach comes from its clinical and coaching background. MVMT was founded by Chelsea Johnston, a physiotherapist and fitness instructor with 15 years’ experience, after seeing people become injured, burnt out or stuck with training that was not producing the results they wanted. Chelsea and coach Mathilde Lallane, who is also a physiotherapist, lead strength, Pilates and mobility classes and offer physiotherapy clinical sessions. Their stated focus is evidence-based training, individualised corrections, modifications and progressions, with coaches paying attention to members’ goals, injuries and form.

MVMT suits solo members who want expert guidance in a more focused group setting, as well as active people looking to improve how they move and recover. It may be a good fit if you are training for resilience and long-term performance rather than aesthetics alone, or if you have reached a plateau and want a clearer method. New members can book the MVMT Intro, which provides three weeks of unlimited Strength, Pilates and Mobility classes for $99; the studio also offers a free discovery call for people who want to discuss whether its approach is suitable.

The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 5.0 from 55 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
