Why it's worth checking out
Above Bondi Beach in Sydney, Icebergs Dining Room and Bar makes the Pacific part of the setting rather than a distant backdrop. The Dining Room occupies the top level of 1 Notts Avenue, with ocean views from every table and a room described as intimate and elegant. Daylight brings the beach and horizon into focus, while evening dining offers a more considered, occasion-led atmosphere. Window tables can be requested when booking.
The cooking is modern Italian, with menus changing alongside the seasons. The restaurant draws on Italian regional traditions while working with Australian produce, including sustainably sourced seafood, vegetables, cheeses and products from small growers in Australia and Italy. Hand-rolled pasta is among the restaurant’s signature offerings, and the menu may include occasional native Australian influences. A dedicated vegetarian and vegan menu sits alongside the à la carte selection, while a children’s menu makes the Dining Room more accommodating for families than its fine-dining setting might suggest.
Icebergs has been serving Italian food in Bondi since 2002 and is described by its own site as consistently hatted since opening. Its long-standing identity is tied to changing perceptions of Italian food in Australia, with the kitchen placing seasonal produce and close producer relationships at the centre of the experience. The restaurant has also received strong personal praise from Nigella Lawson, who has called it her favourite restaurant. The result is a venue with a clear sense of place: Italian in direction, Australian in its produce, and unmistakably connected to Bondi.
For a more relaxed visit, the Bar accepts walk-ins without a dining reservation. It offers seasonal and signature cocktails, wines by the glass, and a small menu intended for sharing, all with the same Pacific outlook as the Dining Room. The restaurant suits milestone celebrations, romantic dinners, long lunches and evenings where the setting matters as much as the meal. Groups of up to 40 can be accommodated in the Dining Room, while larger events may be arranged through exclusive hire of the Pacific Dining Room, Bar or entire venue. The private Pacific Dining Room has its own bar and is available for celebrations, corporate events, launches, team gatherings and other functions. The Dining Room and Bar operate separately from the Bondi Icebergs Club and Bistro below.
