Why it's worth checking out
In the heart of Chatswood, 465 The Avenue combines a restaurant, cocktail bar and event space under one distinctive roof. Its food is described as modern Australian with a twist, covering lunch and dinner as well as smaller plates and snacks designed to go with drinks. The menu specifically mentions eye fillet, fresh salads and chicken katsu, along with share plates for less formal grazing. There is also coffee for drinking in or taking away, plus a bar stocked with local tap beers, craft beers from near and far, spirits, wines and Champagnes.
The venue is arranged around two contrasting spaces. Entry is through a terrace with adjustable blinds and built-in heaters, used by locals and nearby workers for afternoon drinks, relaxed lunches and cocktail events. Inside, a circular rotunda contains the raised restaurant, booth seating, vintage-style murals, red velvet curtains, greenery and a large chandelier. Together, those details create a European-inspired setting suited to a date, a meal with friends, an afternoon drink or a larger private gathering. The venue also offers a kids menu, giving families another reason to consider it.
Drinks are a substantial part of the offering, whether you are stopping in for a cocktail, ordering a beer or choosing from the wine list. Avenue Hour is listed for weekdays from 4pm to 6pm, with selected local tap beers, wines by the glass, house spirits and cocktails available at discounted prices. The broader service covers daytime coffee and drinks, lunch, dinner and later starters and shared food, although the venue notes that service hours can vary.
There is an interesting local story behind the polished vintage interior. The current building was constructed in 2013 as a sister venue to North Sydney’s The Treehouse. Owner Andrew Utiger, who has more than 30 years’ industry experience, worked with Altis Architects on a design influenced by the 1920s Weimar entertainment era. The site itself was once home to Chatswood Kings Theatre, which opened in 1936 and was demolished in 1983. That history is not reflected in an old building—the venue is modern—but it adds context to a Chatswood restaurant designed around atmosphere as much as dining.
